Design Philosophy

The design philosophy for this house centres around two important aspects. Light and Space.

Challenge 1: The stand is SOUTH facing, 368sqm and Close Proximity to Neighbouring Houses.

Solution 1: We introduced a small courtyard to ensure the midday and late afternoon sun are able to flood the living, dining and kitchen areas with light.

Solution 2: We settled on an open plan living arrangement in order to provide free flowing and larger living areas, this will make the house more comfortable to live in.

Solution 3: We introduced sliding doors from the living, kitchen and master suite to free movement.

Challenge 2: Garage OR Larger living Areas

Solution 2.1: We decided to do away with the garage in order to maximise the living area, a area was created to the side of the house to allow the construction of a tandem carport with the ability to park two/three vehicles.

Challenge 3: Poor Clay Soils

Solution 3.1: We designed pad foundations to support the structure, stable soil was reached at 1650mm. Unfortunately pad foundations result in higher overall project costs due to the amount of steel & concrete required compared to traditional strip foundations.

Benefit: This House Design is ideally suited to young families. The design allows the parents the ability to keep an eye on young children from various areas.
